Tour of the Candomblé Region
Description
Begin an intriguing exploration into the essence of the Candomblé faith, discovering its profound history and vibrant African customs rooted in northeastern Brazil.
Tour Overview
When the time comes, you will be collected from your accommodation in Salvador de Bahia, setting the stage for an insightful journey into the realm of Candomblé. Prepare to be enveloped by the enchanting spirit of the African religious tradition flourishing in this region. Let’s embark on this adventure!
Our first stop will be at the Tororó Dam, home to the renowned Orixás sculptures. These impressive figures arise majestically from the waters, embodying the African deities revered in Candomblé.
Upon appreciating Salvador de Bahía’s sole natural spring, a site of national historic significance, we will proceed to a terreiro, a sacred ground for Candomblé practices. Here, we will delve into the spiritual heritage and ancestral customs tied to this belief system. It will be a moment of true reverence! Did you know that this faith views the essence of nature as intertwined with the human spirit? And that the divine figures are referred to as orishas, voduns, or nkisis?
Next, our journey will take us through the historic district of Salvador de Bahía. We’ll wander its captivating streets and visit the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, which stands as a brilliant illustration of religious syncretism in the area.
During our visit, we will uncover the connections between Catholic traditions and Afro-Brazilian faiths, followed by a stop at the Afro-Brazilian Museum to explore the cultural evolution of this region throughout the aftermath of slavery.
As a fitting conclusion to our tour, we will make our way to the Pierre Verger Gallery, named in honor of the French anthropologist who captured that historical period through his lenses. It provides a perfect finale to our exploration!
As we conclude our expedition, we will escort you back to the original meeting point, roughly four hours after our adventure commenced.
