Vienna Ghosts and Legends Tour
Our journey begins at Helmut Zilk Square, where we will assemble at the designated time for this spine-tingling exploration of Vienna's eerie stories and folklore. Are you prepared for the adventure?
Our first stop will be the Vienna State Opera, a landmark steeped in history. Here, we will reflect on the tragic expulsion of Jewish communities during the Nazi era and the impact of World War II on its architecture. A wealth of haunting tales lies hidden within these walls, so be attentive.
Continuing our trek, we will stroll down Augustinerstrasse to learn about Erzsébet Báthory, known as the 'Blood Countess', infamous for her grisly acts against over thirty young women driven by her quest for beauty.
As we proceed, we will pass through St. Joseph's Square and St. Michael's Square, arriving at the parish of the Friars Minor, where remnants of cannonball marks from the historic conflict between the Habsburg Monarchy and the Ottoman Empire can still be observed.
Next, we will delve into the mysterious backstory of the House of the Five Murders and make our way to Am Hof square, a former location for public executions in the city.
But our journey doesn’t end there! We will uncover the eerie tales associated with Hoher Markt, the Heiligenkreuzerhof complex, Schönlatern alley, and the infamous 'bloody alley', the site of a massacre connected to the reign of the Knights Templar.
Our final destination will be the majestic St. Stephen's Cathedral. We will ponder the mysteries of the gargoyles adorning its façade, as stories and legends surround this magnificent structure.
Concluding our hour-and-a-half adventure, we will finish our tour at the entrance of the cathedral.
