Coba & Punta Laguna Day Trip
Description
Join us for a day of exploration at Coba and the Punta Laguna Nature Reserve, featuring activities like biking, canoeing, and a refreshing swim in a cenote. An exciting zip line adventure awaits to elevate your experience.
Tour Overview
Your adventure starts with a prompt pick-up at your hotel in Valladolid. Once everyone is gathered, we’ll embark on a trip through the lush jungle leading to the archaeological site of Coba, a splendid Maya trading hub enveloped in ancient tree roots and whispers of its illustrious history.
After a scenic 50-minute drive, we'll set off on a hiking journey along the sacbes, the iconic white pathways that linked various Maya cities and symbolize an impressive trade network. Next, we’ll hop on bicycles for a ride to witness the remarkable Maya Calendar, famous for its sophisticated astronomical insights that continue to intrigue today's society.
Our next stop will be the impressive Nohoch Mul, known as the tallest pyramid in northern Yucatan, silently guarding the mysteries of the ancient civilization. The tour will also introduce us to the Macaxoc, a collection of around 20 stelae adorned with glyphs. At Stela 1, we’ll be captivated by its 313 hieroglyphs, narrating tales of Maya cosmology and the legendary cycle that concluded in 2012.
After this deep dive into history, we will proceed to the Multun-Ha Cenote, a stunning underground pool offering crystal-clear waters that seem to lead to the Earth's core. Here, we will enjoy a refreshing swim followed by a lunch featuring delicious local specialties, subject to seasonal variations.
Post-lunch, our journey continues to Punta Laguna, also known as Otoch Ma'ax yete Kooh, which translates to “home of the spider monkey and the puma”. This sanctuary bursts with wildlife, especially the playful spider monkeys. Upon arrival, you'll have the chance to take part in a Maya ceremony that fosters a spiritual bond with nature. Subsequently, we’ll rappel into a cenote, invoking the spirits of Xibalba hidden within.
Your adventure will include a thrilling zip-line ride over a tranquil lake followed by a soothing canoe excursion, surrounded by the enchanting scenery of Punta Laguna reserve. A fitting conclusion to a day filled with discovery!
After approximately 9.5 hours of unforgettable experiences, we will return to your hotel in Valladolid to conclude our journey together.
