Tour Overview

The journey commences at the Monument to Juan de la Cosa, a notable navigator and cartographer celebrated for his contributions to maritime history. As we meander along the scenic Paseo de Pereda, which hugs the picturesque Cantabrian coastline, you'll hear intriguing details about his life and accomplishments. At one end of this charming promenade, you will encounter the impressive Fort of San Martín, a historical structure that served as a key defensive point during the Napoleonic conflicts of the 1800s.

Not far from here, we will view a sculpture commemorating the local carnival, recognized as a Fiesta of National Tourist Interest. After learning about this vibrant celebration, we will share fascinating insights regarding the Torre de la Aguada, a former water storage facility that supported steamships in the early 20th century.

While admiring the sea vistas, we will delve into the town's strong maritime heritage, highlighting specific terms such as secadero and tintero, and exploring the stories surrounding their significance.

Our itinerary will also include a visit to the renowned Plaza de Toros de Santoña, the local bullring strategically located near the port and the Lonja de Pescado. We will enter the port to visit the auction room, where freshly caught fish is sold directly upon arrival.

As our tour concludes, we will bid farewell at the shop of Conservas Nuevo Libe, recognized with the 2025 best anchovy award, where participants will enjoy a tasting of an anchovy fillet.
