Kraków Free Holocaust Tour + Ghetto
Description
Join us on a complimentary Holocaust Tour in Krakow where we'll explore the city's Jewish ghetto, uncovering the somber narrative of World War II and visiting the notable Eagle's Pharmacy.
Description
Our meeting point is Plac Bohaterów Getta as we embark on this significant Holocaust journey in Krakow. This historic square transports us to the 1940s, a time when the German occupiers exhibited extreme hostility towards the Jewish community. Throughout the tour, we will confront difficult subjects such as racism, sorrow, and episodes of courage that shape our understanding of this challenging chapter in history.
As we look around at the various benches dotting the plaza, we will learn about their importance, leading us to the remains of the Krakow Ghetto Wall. This formidable barrier distinctly separated the Jewish populace from the rest of the city, effectively isolating this neighborhood from broader society.
Strolling through the streets of the ghetto, we'll witness the enduring spirit of this area. The architectural remnants visible in the fronts of historic hospitals, the prison, and the employment office headquarters narrate their stories. Here, Jewish inhabitants were compelled to work in places like Optima and Madritsch, marking important stops on our journey.
Our exploration will take us to the spots where the gates once stood, marking the entrances to the ghetto. These gates, including the Zuker Synagogue, symbolize the rich history of the area and the ruling body of the ghetto, known as the Judenrat.
We will conclude our route at the renowned Eagle's Pharmacy, now functioning as a museum. Here, we will delve into its remarkable past, wrapping up our tour approximately two hours later.
