Santa Teresa Convent Guided Tour
Description
Embark on an enlightening journey through the Santa Teresa Convent, where you'll encounter a stunning array of religious art, a true treasure during your visit to Potosí.
Santa Teresa Convent Guided Exploration
We'll gather at your convenience on Calle Ayacucho, and from there, proceed to one of Potosí's most captivating religious sites: the Santa Teresa Convent.
Established in 1685 by the Order of the Discalced Carmelites in tribute to Saint Teresa of Avila, the convent transitioned into a museum of religious art in 1976, after the nuns relocated to a modern facility adjacent to the original structure. Today, it proudly holds one of Latin America's most significant collections.
Our guided exploration will take us to the main church and the Hermitage of the Immaculate Conception. These sacred spaces not only serve as sanctuaries for newly professed nuns but are also home to exquisite Baroque altarpieces.
As we continue, we'll delve into various chambers of the convent's museum of religious art, including the Sala de la Virgen Niña, showcasing textiles and embroideries crafted by the sisters, as well as the Sala de los Clásicos and the Sala del Belén.
Our next stop will be the courtyards of the convent, featuring serene gardens where the Carmelites once engaged in agricultural practices.
This enriching experience will conclude after two hours, with our farewells at the museum's exit.
