Day Trip Overview

Our journey begins with an early pickup from your Santa Marta hotel, followed by a scenic drive towards the northeast. After approximately 1.5 hours, we will arrive at Tayrona Park, a breathtaking destination nestled between the Caribbean Sea and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

Upon our arrival, we will kick off the day with a brief introduction to the park's nature conservation efforts before delving into the jungle trails.

For around 4 hours, we will trek through the park, surrounded by magnificent trees that reach heights of over 82 feet (25 meters) and explore the diverse ecosystems that call Tayrona National Park home. With a bit of luck, we may spot iguanas, howler monkeys, ocelots, anteaters, and solitary eagles during our exploration.

Our next destination will be the pristine Caribbean beaches, where we'll leisurely walk along the shores of Cañaveral, Arrecifes, Arenilla, and La Piscina. We will then proceed to Cape San Juan del Guía, one of the most popular locations within the park.

You will have some free time to enjoy local cuisine at one of the nearby eateries before heading to the viewpoint at Cape San Juan for stunning panoramic vistas of the Colombian landscape.

As our day wraps up, we will begin the return journey to Santa Marta, ensuring you're back at your accommodation approximately 11 hours after departure.

Hiking Information

During this experience, be prepared for a 16-km (9.9 miles) medium-difficulty hike that takes around 4 hours to complete, including 2 hours of walking time and an equal amount for returning.

Speedboat Options

When booking, you have the chance to select from three different options involving the speedboat ride between Cabo San Juan and Santa Marta Bay.

Tour with return speedboat: This choice allows you to return by speedboat from Cabo San Juan to Santa Marta Bay. This means you will avoid a 2-hour walk and enjoy more time at Cape San Juan and its beaches until 4 pm when you will board the boat back. Note that this option does not cover transfers to your hotel in Santa Marta.

Tour with round-trip speedboat: Opting for this will have you travel by speedboat both ways, eliminating the walk in either direction. This option also includes the transfer back to your hotel in Santa Marta. Please be aware that a guide will not accompany you; only a skipper will be with you on the speedboat.

Schedule & Duration

• Tour without speedboat transport (11-hour duration): pickup is set for 6:30 am.
• Tour with speedboat return trip (10-hour duration): pickup is at 6:30 am.
• Tour with round-trip speedboat (8-hour duration): pickup is scheduled for 9 am.

Pickup Locations

This excursion includes pickup and drop-off from hotels situated in Bello Horizonte, Rodadero, and central Santa Marta. If your lodging lies in the airport vicinity, along Cienaga, or in Taganga, there will be an additional fee of 20USD per person on the day of the trip.

Please be advised that the hiking options for the Tayrona Park Day Trip will depart at 6:30 am, while the speedboat-only tour will commence at 9:30 am.
