Descripción
Embark on a captivating four-day journey through the Potosi Valley, beginning in Uyuni and concluding in La Paz. This adventure allows you to explore the stunning Uyuni Salt Flat alongside the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve, where colorful lagoons, geothermal geysers, and magnificent volcanoes eagerly await your discovery.
Journey from Uyuni to La Paz: 4-Day Exploration
Day 1: Uyuni to Coqueza
At 10:30 am, we will collect you from your accommodation and proceed in a jeep across the expansive landscapes of Bolivian Potosí. Our first stop will be at the Uyuni train cemetery, where you can ponder the remnants of steam locomotives that once transported minerals from the region. Following this, we will visit Colchani, where you will discover the art of salt production and handicrafts.
After enjoying a leisurely lunch, we will continue to the renowned Uyuni Salt Flat, the world’s largest, offering surreal vistas reminiscent of another world. We will pass by a unique salt hotel before arriving at the Incahuasi viewpoint, encircled by towering cacti that provide breathtaking panoramas of the salt flat. The day will conclude with dinner and an overnight stay in the village of Coqueza.
Day 2: Coqueza to Tunupa Volcano and Colcha K
Awaken before dawn for the chance to witness a spectacular sunrise over the Uyuni Salt Flat. Following breakfast, we will journey to the Coqueza caves situated at the base of Tunupa Volcano. Within these caves, you will encounter the Coqueza mummies, remarkably preserved remains dating back over 500 years, complete with hair and nails.
Our exploration will take us both by foot and jeep up the volcano, with a lunch stop planned before proceeding to the village of Colcha K. As we travel, take in the striking landscapes of salt flats and surrounding mountain ranges. Upon arrival, we will have dinner and spend the night in Colcha K.
Day 3: Colcha K to Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve
The third day begins with breakfast before we depart San Juan and advance towards the southern plains, renowned for its quinoa, a celebrated superfood abundant with nutrients. Crossing the Chiguana Salt Flat, we will reach the viewpoint of Ollague Volcano, where views of its valley of petrified lava await.
Our journey continues into the protected Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve, making stops at Capaña and Hedionda lagoons to observe Andean flamingos and various bird species. After lunch, we will traverse the Silala Desert to reach the remarkable Red Lagoon, celebrated for its striking reddish hue. The day concludes with dinner and overnight accommodations at the Polques Hot Springs.
Day 4: Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve to La Paz
On our final day, we will rise early and head towards Sol de Mañana, a surreal desert characterized by bubbling mud geysers, steam jets, and fumaroles. The geothermal activity here serves as a source for electricity and heating at the nearby Polques Hot Springs, which we will also explore. Our journey continues to the Laguna Verde, known for its vibrant colors, set against the backdrop of Licanbur Volcano.
We will stop in the village of Villa Mar for lunch before heading back to Uyuni, taking us through charming colonial mining towns like San Cristóbal. Once we return to Uyuni, we will board an overnight bus scheduled to depart at 8:30 pm for La Paz, reaching our destination at approximately 5:30 am.
