Al Hoota Cave Guied Tour
Description
Join us on a guided exploration of Al Hoota Cave, a natural marvel shaped over millions of years that offers a glimpse into the ancient history of northeast Oman.
Tour Description
At the designated meeting time, we will gather at the entrance of Al Hoota Cave to commence our guided journey through one of Al Hamra's hidden gems.
This remarkable site rests at the base of Jebel Shams, Oman’s tallest peak, and boasts an age exceeding 2 million years, serving as a witness to the Earth's natural processes and the relentless passage of time. Interestingly, the cave was formed through the erosion of limestone by acidic waters, a process that still continues to modify the cave's geomorphology.
Encompassing over 4.5 kilometers (2.7 miles) in total, only 500 meters (1,640 feet) of the cave is accessible to visitors. This concise journey will take you through an underground realm replete with various geological formations like stalactites, stalagmites, and columns, which have taken eons to develop. Prepare for an engaging experience!
During our visit, we will also encounter one of the four lakes situated within the cave. As we approach this expansive water body, which measures 800 meters (2,624 feet) in length and 15 meters (49 feet) in depth, you'll learn about the unique fish species that inhabit it. Additionally, keep an eye out for bats, arthropods, molluscs, spiders, and water beetles that may cross our path.
After an hour of exploration, we will conclude our tour as we exit the cave.
