Are you seeking activities in Alcántara? Embark on a boat and relish a delightful excursion across the Alagón River and the José María Oriol reservoir. This experience allows you to observe bird families while exploring the largest tributary of the Tagus River.

Boat Excursion: Alagón + Alcántara Reservoir

At the appointed time, we will gather at the El Bañaero jetty, located on the José María Oriol reservoir, also referred to as the Alcántara reservoir. From there, we will embark on a boat to commence our enjoyable journey across these scenic waters.

Our first stop will take us to the massive concrete structure of the Alcántara dam, completed in the late 1960s to manage the flow of the Tagus River.

Next, we will depart from the Alcántara reservoir and navigate the river Alagón, known as the longest tributary of the Tagus. Along the way, we will observe the quarry that provided materials for the dam's construction while admiring the local wildlife that thrives in this riverside habitat.

Our route will glide through an enchanting natural setting recognized for its diverse bird species. We will have binoculars on hand to enhance our birdwatching experience! With some luck, we may catch a glimpse of griffon vultures and even black storks—so keep a watchful eye!

After an hour and a half on the water, our boat trip will conclude as we return to the starting pier.
