Hassan Fathy Building Guided Tour
Description
Are you searching for enriching cultural experiences in Mallorca? While in Alcúdia, take the opportunity to embark on a guided tour of the Hassan Fathy Building, a key highlight within the Sa Bassa Blanca Museum. The artistry of Spanish-Moorish design will leave you in awe!
Tour Overview
Situated on the outskirts of Alcúdia, the Sa Bassa Blanca Museum serves as a prominent cultural hub in northern Mallorca. This remarkable venue features the Hassan Fathy Building, alongside the Sculpture Park, OlivArt, and the Sokrates Gallery.
At the scheduled time, the guided exploration of the Spanish-Moorish-style edifice, crafted by the distinguished Egyptian architect Hasan Fathy, will commence. Originally conceived for the nuptials of artists Ben Jakober and Yannick Vu, this foundation now operates the Sa Bassa Blanca Museum.
The Hassan Fathy Building, named in tribute to its architect, is nestled in a serene natural landscape offering scenic views of Alcúdia Bay. During this tour, you will navigate through various rooms, including the library which boasts an impressive collection of over 10,000 art and design books. Additionally, you will encounter a 15th-century Mudéjar coffered ceiling and explore a Moroccan art room, featuring a stunning lattice table known as mashrabiya.
As the tour unfolds, you will also have the opportunity to appreciate a collection of chairs designed by notable figures such as Antoni Miralda, Salvador Dalí, Frank Gehry, and Alan Rath. The rich assortment of modern and contemporary art includes works by acclaimed artists, including Miquel Barceló, El Anatsui, and Emily Kngwarreye.
The guided tour of the Hassan Fathy Building lasts approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. After concluding the tour, you are free to explore additional areas of the Sa Bassa Blanca Museum, including the picturesque Sculpture Park and OlivArt.
The Sculpture Park, located in the museum's gardens, features remarkable large animal sculptures including hippopotamuses, elephants, and rhinos, all crafted from granite by Ben Jakober and Yannick Vu.
Within the OlivArt, an olive grove comprising 22 ancient olive trees awaits, showcasing varieties such as Lechín de Sevilla, Picual, Grosal, and Hojiblanca.
