Details of the Day Trip

We will convene at Av. Júlio Maria, number 16 at the scheduled time before embarking on our adventure towards the Serra do Piloto, a protected environmental zone in Mangaratiba.

Our journey begins at the historic Estrada Imperial, an engineering marvel established in the 17th century. With stunning landscapes lining the route, we'll take a brief walk to examine the remnants of the Saco Bravo ruins, which hark back to the colonial era.

Next, we will visit the Imperial Viewpoint, offering breathtaking vistas of the surrounding area. From this vantage point, you'll glimpse the Serra do Mar, gaining insights into its significance as a key location throughout history.

The adventure continues at the Cachoeira dos Escravos, a waterfall nestled in the heart of the Atlantic Forest. Beyond its striking natural scenery, this site carries a poignant past, serving as a resting spot for slaves who labored on the road's construction. Our subsequent destination will be the Emporio da Barreira, a quaint venue where we'll delve into local traditions.

We will then proceed to the São João Marcos Archaeological Park, situated in Río Claro at the boundary of Mangaratiba. Once among the wealthiest cities in Rio de Janeiro during the height of the coffee boom, this area was submerged in 1940 due to flooding and remained obscured for many years. Today, it stands as an open-air museum, inviting visitors on a fascinating journey into its history.

Finally, we'll make our way back to the original meeting point in Angra dos Reis, concluding our day eight hours after departure.
