The Colca Valley features one of the most profound canyons globally. Experience its breathtaking landscapes on this day trip starting from Arequipa and discover the charming village of Chivay.

A designated time will mark your pick-up from your accommodation in Arequipa. Following a scenic three-hour drive through southern Peru, we will reach the beautiful Andean settlement of Chivay. Situated at over 3,000 meters (9,842 ft) above sea level, we will pause briefly here to enjoy a light breakfast, sampling various local delicacies.

Once replenished, we’ll proceed to the traditional town of Maca, where we will visit the church and partake in an optional tasting of the local cocktail known as Colca Sour, made from the citrus fruit Sancayo and pisco. Capture moments with llamas and alpacas during our visit.

Our next stop will be the Cruz del Condor viewpoint, just a short 50-minute drive from Chivay. We will spend one hour here admiring the stunning vistas of the Colca Canyon, renowned as one of the world’s deepest canyons. This viewpoint is ideal for witnessing condors soaring in the Andean skies.

Continuing along the road, we will visit several viewpoints in the vicinity, including Wayrapunko and Antahuilque, where we can further admire the region’s dramatic landscapes, including ancient hanging tombs, lithomachs, and terraces dating back to pre-Inca and Inca times.

Subsequently, we will make a stop at the thermal baths of Chacapi, offering you 45 minutes to soak in its healing waters. For those who prefer not to bathe, this time can be spent ziplining or kayaking independently.

Around midday, we will return to Chivay or another nearby location, granting you some free time for lunch. Savor your meal, and afterward, we will move on to the Mirador de Los Volcanes, where striking views of the Chila mountain range, the snow-capped Ampato and Hualca Hualca, as well as the Sabancaya volcano and Pichu Pichu volcano, await.

We will traverse the National Reserve of Salinas and Aguada Blanca, a stunning natural area offering views of the Misti and Chachani volcanoes looming on the horizon.

Finally, we will conclude our journey with a return to Arequipa, wrapping up the day after approximately 14 to 15 hours together.

Hotel Pickup and Ending Point

Pickup is available from hotels located within a 1-kilometer radius (0.6 miles) of Plaza de Armas in Arequipa. If your accommodation is outside this range, please proceed to the meeting point at the indicated time, which is situated at the cathedral entrance in the Plaza de Armas.

Regarding the end point, be aware that the 2 am tour concludes in the Plaza de Armas vicinity.

The 2:40 am tour includes a drop-off back at your hotel. However, in the event of traffic restrictions or events affecting access to the historical center and nearby areas, the drop-off will occur at a nearby location instead.
