Colca Canyon 2-Day Expedition

Day 1: Departure from Arequipa to Chivay

Beginning with a hotel pickup in Arequipa, we will depart the city and navigate towards the scenic Colca Valley. Our journey spans three hours through the Salinas & Aguada National Reserve, with a planned stop at the Patapampa viewpoint, soaring at over 15,800 feet (4,830 meters) above sea level!

Continuing our route, we will traverse lagoons and wetlands, ultimately arriving at Chivay, a village perched at 11,800 feet (3,600 meters). In the afternoon, indulge in a visit to a nearby hot spring, where you can relax and experience the therapeutic benefits of its waters.

Later, return to Chivay for an authentic evening experience featuring traditional dining  complemented by local dances; this moment is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Day 2: Chivay to Maca to Yanque and Return to Arequipa

Awaken in Chivay with a delightful breakfast at your hotel, replenishing your energy for another day in the Colca Valley. Our first destination will be the renowned Condor Cross, where we will spend an hour marveling at the condors in flight and the breathtaking vistas of the Colca Canyon, one of the world's deepest.

On our return to Chivay, we will make two notable stops. The first will be to uncover the charms of Maca, designated as a Historic Monument of Peru. Here, the picturesque church and locals in traditional attire will welcome you to explore their rich customs. Following this, we will visit Yanque, nestled in the heart of the Colca Valley.

Upon our return to Chivay, you’ll have some leisure time for lunch before we journey back to Arequipa, with the tour concluding around 5 pm.

Accommodation Options

During the booking phase, choose from three different accommodation styles:

• House accommodation: experience the warmth of a local family's home in either Coporaque or Sibayo, including lunch and dinner with the family.
• Hostel accommodation: enjoy a private room equipped with a bathroom and hot water. Suggested options include Colca Inn, Posada del Colca, or alternatives.
• Accommodation in a three-star hotel: this option features a private room and bathroom, along with wifi and heating, with hotels such as Casa Andina Colca, Colcallaqta, Pozo del Cielo, or similar.

Option to Conclude the Tour in Puno

While booking, you have the flexibility to end your journey in Puno instead of Arequipa. If you select this option, the itinerary remains unchanged until the second day when we depart Chivay towards Puno instead.

This 6-hour drive will include stops at Patapampa and Lagunilla, allowing for further exploration of the Colca Valley. The tour will conclude in Puno around 7 pm.

This expedition is complimentary for children under 3 years of age, provided they remain seated on their parent’s or guardian’s lap during the bus rides.
