During this bike excursion in Arequipa, you’ll venture through the countryside and the historic district, making your way towards the breathtaking Yanahuara viewpoint, where stunning panoramas of the Chilina Valley and the Misti, Chachani, and Picchu Picchu volcanoes await you.

Tour Overview

Our adventure begins at 125 La Merced Street. After distributing bikes, helmets, and gloves, we’ll embark on this journey, ready to see the White City in a unique way. Let’s get started!

The initial leg of our journey takes us through the historic district, where you’ll find colonial residences crafted from white volcanic stone known as sillar, which gives Arequipa its distinctive hue. Did you know that this city is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site? The architectural beauty makes it quite evident!

Next, we’ll ride into the modern residential sectors, where diverse architectural styles showcase Arequipa’s development across the ages. We’ll traverse one of the bridges spanning the Chili River and pause at the Yanahuara viewpoint, a quintessential highlight of the city.

The volcanic stone arches here frame breathtaking views of the Misti Volcano, the city’s eternal sentinel. Take note of the inscriptions on the arches, showcasing verses by local Arequipean poets, which embody the city’s rich cultural tapestry.

Following that, we’ll descend into the Chilina Valley, a tranquil haven that starkly contrasts with the busy urban environment. Here, fertile fields, ancient pre-Inca terraces, and local livestock portray the essence of traditional rural life. We’ll glide along the Chili River, a vital source of water for the entire region, while the majestic Misti, Chachani, and Picchu Picchu volcanoes rise on the horizon.

Next, we’ll wander through the San Lázaro neighborhood, navigating its charming cobbled streets and sillar houses, uncovering an intricate historical maze.

As we make our way back, our last stop will be the impressive façade of the Church of the Society of Jesus, a 17th-century masterpiece of mestizo Baroque architecture. Its elaborate volcanic stone carvings recount the tales of indigenous and Christian traditions, symbolizing the confluence of two cultures.

Finally, we’ll return to our starting location, concluding our approximately three-hour tour.
