Experience the breathtaking scarlet hues of the Red Lagoon, a truly distinctive natural wonder nestled in the highlands of northern Chile. This journey from Arica will also take you to nearby lakes including the Verde and Amarilla lakes.

Tour of the Red Lagoon

Your day begins with a pickup from your hotel in Arica between 5 and 6 am, after which we embark on a journey to one of northern Chile's most remarkable destinations.

The adventure starts as we navigate through the Huara crossroads and make a stop at the intriguing Chillaiza petroglyphs, where we can admire the ancient engravings left by the Incas. Our journey then continues towards the village of Camiña, where we will enjoy a hearty breakfast.

Refreshed and ready, we will then travel to the banks of the Caritaya River. At an impressive altitude of 3700 meters (12139 feet), we will behold the stunning crimson waters of the iconic Red Lagoon, and discover the natural factors responsible for these intriguing scarlet pigments that intriguingly contrast with the Andean scenery.

After our exploration of the Red Lagoon, we will journey to two additional high Andean bodies of water, the Verde and Amarilla lagoons. The vibrant yellow and green shades of these lakes, which lend them their names, are a result of diverse microalgae, minerals, and other natural components.

To complete our experience, we will dine at a local restaurant in Camiña, enjoying a traditional lunch featuring three courses of regional cuisine. Following this delicious meal, we will make our way back to your hotel in Arica, arriving around 6 pm.
