5-Day Trek to Mount Meru

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha

Upon your arrival at the airport, a knowledgeable guide will welcome you and guide you to your accommodation in Arusha. After settling in, we'll convene with our skilled hiking guides for a session on essential safety practices for our upcoming ascent.

In the evening, we'll enjoy dinner at the hotel and prepare for the adventures that lie ahead starting the following day.

Day 2: Arusha - Momella Gate - Ascending Mount Meru

After a hearty breakfast and finalizing our hiking gear, we will depart for Momella Gate, the gateway to Mount Meru Natural Park. At this juncture, a forest ranger will accompany us, enhancing our experience as we witness wildlife throughout the trek.

Along the 10 km (6 mi) trail, expect to encounter elephants, zebras, giraffes, monkeys, and antelopes in their native environment - surely an experience to cherish! After approximately 6 hours of hiking, we will arrive at the Miriakamba Hut camp to enjoy some dinner and spend the night.

Day 3: Climbing Mount Meru

The second day poses the challenge of the steepest section of our journey, covering 8 km (5 mi) along the ridge of Mount Meru. At this point, we will be treated to sweeping views of the crater. Throughout the day, we will hike through the ashen landscape, typical of this dormant volcano.

A hot meal awaits us at the Saddle Hut. For those interested, a brief hike to the top of Little Meru will reward us with sunset views of the peak. After dinner at the campsite, we will rest up for the next day's challenges.

Day 4: Reaching the Summit of Mount Meru

On the third day, we aim for the summit of Mount Meru. This stretch involves more than 5 km (3 mi) of hiking. Upon reaching the summit, we will be awed by spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the crater's sheer cliffs.

Prior to our descent, we will savor a meal at the Saddle Hut camp and then descend the 13 km (8 mi) along rugged paths, culminating our day at the Miriakamba Hut camp for dinner and overnight rest.

Day 5: Descending Mount Meru - Momella Gate - Back to Arusha

On our final day, we will walk through the lush meadows and forests of Mount Meru's slopes. Before reaching Momella Gate by late morning, we will take in the richness of the local wildlife during this 10 km (6 mi) trek.

Once at Momella Gate, we will return to our hotel in Arusha for dinner and reflect on the remarkable adventure we have experienced on Mount Meru.
