Tour Details

We will gather in front of the Episcopal Palace, located in the Plaza Eduardo de Castro at the scheduled time. Are you prepared to explore the captivating narrative of this remarkable city?

Our journey begins with a leisurely walk through the historic heart of Astorga, where you will learn about the Maragatería region and the renowned muleteers whose customs have significantly influenced the city's identity. We'll discuss the famous chocolate connection—can you guess its origin?

As we wander, pay attention to two stunning murals created by local artist Da2.0. These open-air masterpieces beautifully encapsulate the essence and vibrancy of Astorga. Be sure to take photos to remember the experience!

Our next stop will be Plaza de Santocildes, where we will delve into the background of Cocido Maragato, a traditional and flavorful local stew. Afterwards, we will visit the Plaza Mayor to uncover the meaning behind the impressive Baroque façade of the Town Hall. If we're fortunate, we might hear the enchanting chimes of Juan Zancuda and Colasa, the iconic figures atop the clock tower.

Continuing our exploration, we will stroll along the ancient city walls, discovering some hidden treasures, including the Sanctuary of Fátima, the Synagogue Garden, and the Domus del Oso y los Pájaros, which showcases some of the most well-preserved Roman ruins in the area. During this leg of the tour, we will share insights about the city's celebrated festivals, including its vibrant patron saint events and the historical Astures y Romanos re-enactment.

We will then step inside the Episcopal Palace, a modernist creation by the renowned architect Antoni Gaudí. Here, we will explore three captivating levels, beginning with the stunning main floor, proceeding to the administrative area, and finally reaching the basement.

To conclude our adventure, we will visit the Astorga Cathedral, where we can admire its intricately designed chapels, the serene choir, and the impressive main altarpiece crafted by noted artist Gaspar Becerra.

After approximately 3 hours of exploration, we will conclude our tour at the Plaza de la Catedral.
