Sightseeing Bus to Cape Sounion
Description
Embark on a journey to Cape Sounion on a tourist bus, where you'll explore a site of significant importance in Greek mythology, accompanied by an audio guide available in English.
Cape Sounion from Athens
At the designated time, we will gather in Athens to set off towards Cape Sounion. Throughout the voyage, the audio guide will share captivating insights regarding this iconic location in the Attica region.
Cape Sounion stands as a pivotal landmark in Greek heritage. Legend tells that it was here where Aegeus took his own life, believing his son Theseus had been lost. This tale is also the origin of the name Aegean Sea.
Upon arrival, you will have the opportunity to explore the renowned Temple of Poseidon at your leisure, a remarkable structure dating back to the 5th century B.C. The towering columns, reaching heights of over 6 meters (20 feet), are truly awe-inspiring. Interestingly, these columns were constructed to mitigate the effects of erosion, and if you inspect them closely, you may spot the inscription of Lord Byron, the celebrated English poet.
As the day transitions into evening, we will gather at Cape Sounion to witness one of Greece's most stunning sunsets.
Afterward, we will return to the bus for the journey back to Athens, with an estimated return time of four hours from our departure.
