Civil War & Civil Rights Tour
Your journey begins with a pickup from your accommodation in Atlanta at the designated time. Once settled in our comfortable bus, we will embark on a journey through the key sites of the Civil War that shaped the city, once an essential battlefield during this defining period.
Our first stop will be Cabbagetown, a historic neighborhood characterized by its well-preserved 19th-century architecture. This area, recognized on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, holds great significance due to its role in the cotton industry.
Next, we will explore Inman Park, the site of the Battle of Atlanta, a significant encounter that hastened the conclusion of the war. Despite the destruction faced by the city, remnants of Victorian houses still stand, which we will admire throughout our tour.
Our Civil War narrative will culminate with a visit to Oakland Cemetery, where notable individuals, including soldiers and esteemed figures such as the founder of the Masters Golf Tournament and writer Margaret Mitchell, are interred.
Shifting to the political landscape, we will explore Atlanta’s captivating chapter in the history of Civil Rights. As the hometown of Martin Luther King Jr., we will tour his residence, the church where he worshipped, and conclude at his final resting place, guided by insights into the significant movement he championed.
We will also stop by the Sweet Auburn Curb Market, currently the only public market in the city. However, back in the 1920s, it was renowned as the wealthiest African-American street globally. The reasons behind this prosperity will be revealed during our visit.
As the tour concludes, we will return you to your hotels in Atlanta.
