Hiking and Kayaking Adventure at the Emerald Lagoon
Our trip begins at 6 am from the central square of Ayacucho. From there, we will make our way across the expansive plains of the Andean highlands en route to Huanta, where we will pause for a refreshing breakfast.
By around 11 am, we’ll arrive at the initiation spot for our thirty-minute trek across lush pastures, ultimately leading us to the spectacular Verdecocha, or Emerald Lagoon. Perched at an impressive altitude of 4,300 meters (14,100 feet), you’ll instantly recognize the beauty that awaits, making every step worthwhile.
As we step into this enchanting natural haven, we'll transition into kayaks to paddle across the lagoon's surreal waters, which are characterized by their striking crystalline emerald green color. Curious about what contributes to this captivating appearance? Join us in exploring!
After relishing this breathtaking landscape and capturing numerous photographs, we’ll return to the trail. Our next destination is the Uchuraccay sanctuary, where we’ll take a moment to unwind and delve into the intriguing history of this site.
Upon completing our trek, a bus will be waiting to transport us to Huanta for lunch, during which you’ll have the freedom to enjoy the local culinary delights. After the meal, we will take a short tour of this picturesque town, fondly known as the Emerald of the Andes, as we visit the notable statue of the White Christ.
We will conclude our day by returning to Ayacucho, with an estimated drop-off at the starting point around 6 pm.
