Baeza Night Tour
Description
The charm of nighttime unveils the hidden beauty of cities, and you can experience this captivating change on a night tour of Baeza. Join us to explore the unique attractions of this remarkable Spanish city.
Details of the Night Tour
We'll gather at Plaza de los Leones at the designated hour to embark on our nocturnal expedition through Baeza.
Our journey begins with a stroll along the Paseo de la Constitución, home to the Aliatares Tower, an essential component of the Muslim fortifications. Next, we will pass the Alhóndiga, a 16th-century structure originally intended for trade, which features a passage leading to the noteworthy Old Granary, renowned for its impressive series of vaults.
Continuing, we’ll arrive at Plaza del Pópulo, where we’ll uncover the iconic fountain of the Lions, the Old Butchers, the Jaen Gate, and the Arch of Villalar. The grandiosity of this square is striking, and it transforms into a hauntingly beautiful space under the night sky, starkly contrasting the lively atmosphere of daytime.
Our exploration proceeds to the Plaza de Santa Maria, distinguished by its prominent stone fountain. Here, we’ll learn why this site was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003.
Nestled within the Plaza de Santa Maria is the majestic cathedral, an architectural masterpiece accompanied by the Fountain of Santa Maria and the Casas Consistoriales Altas. You will be captivated by the remarkable dome that crowns this magnificent building.
At the lookout point of Paseo de Antonio Machado, we’ll be treated to breathtaking vistas of the Guadalquivir Valley. From this vantage point, the majestic Natural Parks of Sierra de Cazorla, Segura, and Las Villas can be seen, along with glimpses of the neighboring city of Ubeda, Sierra Magina and its quaint villages, and even Jaen Capital. Our next stop will be the Plaza de Santa Cruz, home to the Santa Cruz church, the only Romanesque church in Andalusia, and the Palace of Jabalquinto, celebrated for its exquisite flamboyant Gothic façade. Our walk will then lead us to the Old University, established in the 16th century, where we can honor the esteemed poet Antonio Machado, who taught here for seven years.
After approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, we will conclude our enlightening journey back at our original meeting point.
