Baku Guided Walking Tour
Description
Historic structures, mosques, and bustling marketplaces create an enchanting backdrop for this guided exploration of Baku, offering a captivating glimpse into the vibrant stories, aromas, and heritage of Azerbaijan’s capital.
Tour Overview
For those yet to uncover the charming spots of Baku, we will convene at the Double Gates of Baku, the primary entrance to the Old City. Our journey will commence with a stroll through a labyrinth of ancient stone lanes that have borne witness to caravans, empires, and countless tales throughout the ages.
The first landmark on our route will be the renowned Maiden Tower, a true emblem of the city. We will take in its unique cylindrical design and robust stone structure, delving into the legends that envelop its history. Some theories suggest it may have once operated as a Zoroastrian observatory, though the debate over its true purpose remains among historians.
Subsequently, we will make our way to the lively Yas?l Bazaar, alternatively referred to as the Green Market. This is where you can truly immerse yourself in Baku's daily life, surrounded by colorful displays of spices, fresh fruits, nuts, and traditional crafts.
The exploration continues at the Haji Bani Bathhouse, an ancient hammam showcasing architectural techniques that effectively harnessed heat long before the advent of modern conveniences. Our journey will also take us to the Juma Mosque and the Muhammad Mosque, where we will trace the evolution of Islamic artistry and religious architecture within Azerbaijan.
A standout feature of the tour is the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. The courtyards, tombs, and royal quarters provide insight into the sophisticated court life of the 15th century, a time when this palace served as a major political hub in the Caucasus region.
As we near the conclusion of our tour, we will pass by the statue of Aliaga Vahid, celebrated for its whimsical sculptural artistry that honors Azerbaijani poetry.
Our final stop will lead us to the workshop of Ali Shamsi, an iconic and captivating location in Baku’s Old City. Here, you will have the opportunity to observe the artistic process that has transformed this modest studio into a renowned local artistic hub.
After 2 hours of immersive discovery, we will return to our meeting point, concluding this enlightening journey.
