8-Day Tour of the Best of Gambia

Verdant landscapes, vibrant cultures, and warm hospitality define the essence of West Africa. Embark on an 8-day journey exploring Gambia, commencing in Banjul. This adventure includes visits to Birkama, the Soma region, and a host of other remarkable sites throughout the country.

8-Day Journey Through Gambia

Day 1: Banjul - Sanyang

Your adventure begins in Gambia as we greet you at the airport in Banjul. From there, we will journey to the town of Sanyang, where you can settle into your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to explore, relax on the beach, or enjoy dinner at your leisure.

Day 2: Sanyang - Tendaba

After a hearty breakfast in Sanyang, we will embark southward towards Tendaba. Our journey will include stops in various towns, allowing you to immerse yourself in the traditional and modern culture of Gambia.

Upon our arrival in Tendaba, you will have time to enjoy lunch at your choice of venue. Later in the afternoon, we will set out on a boat excursion through the mangroves for approximately two and a half hours, where you might spot an array of birds, crocodiles, and diverse wildlife. Stay alert for fascinating encounters!

Our day concludes as we return to our accommodation in Tendaba for dinner at your convenience.

Day 3: Tendaba - Sinchu Njugar - Kudang

As dawn breaks, we depart from Tendaba, heading towards Sinchu Njugar, the capital of the Soma region, situated in the heart of Gambia.

We will explore Sinchu Njugar, appreciating its stunning landscapes before venturing into the Peul region. In this place, characterized by its abundance of acacia and baobab trees, we will visit a traditional village where locals will share insights about their culinary practices and cultural heritage.

The trip continues to a rural lodge in Njugari-Kudang, allowing time for lunch. Our next adventure involves a three-hour drive through the Gambia River National Park, where, if fortune favors us, we might catch a glimpse of the majestic African hippos. We will follow the Gambia River to Baboon Island, renowned for its vibrant monkey population.

After a fulfilling day, we will head back to the lodge, where dinner awaits.

Day 4: Kudang - Bintang Bolong

Following breakfast in Njugari-Kudang, we’ll set out towards the Bintang Bolong, the principal tributary of the Gambia River, originating from the Kolda region of Senegal.

We will spend the night in this beautiful area. After checking into your accommodation, you will have time to enjoy lunch.

In the evening, we will return to our lodging in Bintang Bolong for dinner.

Day 5: Bintang Bolong - Birkama - Sanyang

The morning of this fifth day involves exploring the local fishing villages near Sanyang. Following this visit, we will proceed to Birkama, where you can browse through local handicrafts at the renowned wood market. Enjoy lunch at your discretion in Birkama.

In the evening, we will gather back on the shores of Sanyang for a delightful dinner on the beach. As we light a bonfire on the sand, you will enjoy traditional tales and stories shared by locals, illuminated by the flames.

After dinner, we'll return to the hotel.

Day 6: Sanyang - Serekunda - Tanji - Sanyang

After breakfast, we head to Serekunda, the largest and most populated city in Gambia. Here, local artists will demonstrate the distinctive batik technique used in fabric printing.

You will have free time to enjoy lunch before we visit the coastal village of Tanji, where the locals unload their vibrant fishing catches.

We will make our way back to Sanyang for dinner at your leisure and rest for the following day.

Day 7: Sanyang - Katchikally - Sanyang

The day begins with a visit to Katchikally, a renowned sacred crocodile pond celebrated for rituals associated with fertility. After our encounter with these ancient creatures, you will have an hour to enjoy lunch as you choose.

In the afternoon, we will explore a reserve known for its diverse ape population before returning to Sanyang.

Day 8: Sanyang - Bakau - Banjul

Your final day in Sanyang is entirely at your discretion. After lunch, we will depart for Bakau to ensure you arrive at Banjul Airport in good time. Wishing you safe travels on your return!
