Barichara Free Tour
Description
The charming cobbled streets of one of the most beautiful villages in Colombia await you on this free tour of Barichara, located in the Andes mountain range with a rich history.
Tour Details
We will meet at the central fountain of the Parque Principal in Barichara at the scheduled time to begin this free tour. Barichara inspired the locations in the acclaimed Disney film Encanto.
As we walk through the cobbled streets, we will stop in front of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception to discuss its architectural history. We will then pass by the Mayor's Office, the Town Hall, and the Casa de la Cultura, which showcases local traditions. Throughout the tour, we will encounter statues of notable local figures.
Next, we will visit the Arts and Crafts Workshop, where we’ll receive a 15-minute talk on typical handicraft manufacturing. Our route includes the central cemetery, featuring carved sculptures that tell stories of Barichara's ancestral inhabitants, leading us to a panoramic viewpoint for expansive landscape views.
We will continue to the statue of Simón Bolívar and the start of the Camino Real Barichara-Guane, learning about the history of indigenous roads. We will visit another viewpoint in the Santa Bárbara neighbourhood, where we will enjoy a tasting of sabajón and "hormigas culonas".
We will conclude our tour at the chapel of Santa Barbara after approximately 2.5 to 3 hours.
