Colonia Suiza Day Trip
Description
Experience the historical richness of one of Bariloche's most significant towns with this excursion to Colonia Suiza. Engage in the delightful “destape” ceremony, an event brimming with culture and flavor!
Excursion Overview
Gather at the specified location of San Martín 398, and prepare to leave behind the vibrant city of Bariloche as we travel along the scenic Avenida Exequiel Bustillo, which curves beside the shimmering Nahuel Huapi Lake. Are you ready to uncover the beauty of one of the most enchanting towns in the Argentine Patagonia?
We will then connect to the Ruta Provincial 77, which skirts the shores of Argentino Lake. After a journey of about 40 minutes, we will arrive at Colonia Suiza, a picturesque location seemingly frozen in time. This quaint town was established in the late 19th century by Swiss settlers who migrated across the mountains from Chile. Within this charming setting, you’ll delve into its rich history, embraced by the striking backdrops of Cerro López and Cerro Goye.
As we explore, you’ll stroll along rustic pathways, marvel at the traditional wooden structures featuring gabled roofs, and visit a localized artisan market. Enjoy the opportunity to browse through traditional craft stalls, where you can find regional goods, textiles, ceramics, and various homemade treats.
A highlight of this excursion will be witnessing the preparation of the renowned curanto, a dish traditionally cooked underground using heated stones from the lake. Join us for the experience of the “destape” ceremony, rich in culinary tradition. This hearty dish consists of pork, beef, potatoes, apples, and pumpkins, complemented by cheese, cream, and peas—an irresistible treat!
After indulging in this memorable experience, we will begin our return to the assembly point in Bariloche, concluding our 5-hour journey with farewell thoughts.
