Tour Overview

Our adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel in Barranquilla. We will board a minibus for a short ride to the south of the Atlántico, heading towards Galapa. In just 30 minutes, we'll arrive in this lively Colombian town, renowned for its deep connections to the Barranquilla Carnival. Let’s explore what makes this place special!

Our first stop will be the Museo MUCA, where we’ll take a 40-minute guided tour. Here, you’ll uncover the rich history linked to the Barranquilla Carnival, including its most famous characters and symbols. It might interest you to know that this celebration is recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage!

Next, we will stroll through Galapa, passing by the Plaza Principal and the Casa de la Cultura, which are vital hubs for the town’s artistic endeavors.

To get an up-close look at the craftsmanship, we will visit a local workshop where skilled artisans meticulously carve a variety of carnival figures. Each creation is one-of-a-kind and draws inspiration from the vibrant characters of the Barranquilla Carnival.

While exploring the workshop, you will learn about the stories behind the colorful motifs that adorn the masks of this renowned carnival. An expert artisan will guide you through the intricate process of wood cutting, carving, and decorating. Every detail matters in this meticulous craft!

To conclude this enriching experience, you’ll have the opportunity to decorate your own wooden figure. Choose your colors and designs to personalize a piece inspired by the Barranquilla Carnival. Become an artisan for a day!

After relishing a traditional lunch in the region, we will return to the minibus for our journey back to Barranquilla, concluding the tour approximately six hours after it started.
