Your adventure begins at 10 am when we pick you up from your accommodation in Barreal. We will then embark on an all-terrain jeep journey towards the Calingasta Valley, renowned for housing the impressive Sierra del Tontal, often referred to as the foothills of San Juan.

Following the historic paths of the Dakar Rally drivers who raced in South America between 2009 and 2019, we will traverse some pivotal stages of this legendary event. Continuing our way, we will approach a section of the mountain range where an array of communication antennas rise above 13,000 feet.

Throughout our journey, we will be immersed in the unique vistas of the puna grasslands, typical of the Andean highlands. After soaking in these sweeping views, we will explore an ancient silver deposit that was mined during the tenure of Domingo Faustino Sarmiento as president of Argentina.

Next, we will replenish our energy with a delightful picnic lunch before making our way back. The return trip will allow us to observe additional segments of the vast 250 miles of mountainous terrain that comprise the Sierra del Tontal. Be sure to have your camera ready, as these majestic summits are particularly striking in winter, blanketed in pristine white snow.

We will pause at a scenic spot halfway through our journey to indulge in a light snack al fresco. Our expedition will conclude around 6 pm, returning you to your hotel in Barreal.
