Tour of Baños de la Encina
Description
Experience the rich heritage of Baños de la Encina with this captivating guided excursion. Explore its medieval castle while uncovering the significance of its hermitage and various sacred sites.
Exploring Baños de la Encina
We will convene at the Tourist Office located on José Luis Messía Avenue at the scheduled time to embark on our exploration of Baños de la Encina.
The journey begins at the magnificent Muslim fortress known as Bury Al-Hamma (or Burgalimar in Spanish), dating back to the 10th century during the Caliphate era. Its striking exterior is a testament to its status as one of Europe’s most well-preserved castles and uniquely constructed from tabiyya (dry mud). As we navigate its towers, the inner views will reward us with breathtaking panoramas of the village.
Our itinerary will also include a visit to the church of San Mateo and the hermitage of Cristo del Llano. You’ll be charmed by the vibrant figures and striking decorations of the latter, celebrated for exemplifying Andalusian rococo baroque. The reflections from mirrors set within the walls enhance the spiritual ambiance, creating a sense of serenity.
As we proceed, a leisurely walk through the historic center of Baños de la Encina will allow us to appreciate elegant houses and other preserved architectural treasures.
After approximately 2 hours of exploration, our tour will come to a close.
