Tour of Baños de la Encina
Description
Explore the rich history of Baños de la Encina through this captivating guided excursion. Uncover the secrets of its medieval fortress and admire the notable hermitage alongside other sacred sites!
Guided Exploration of Baños de la Encina
We will convene at the Tourist Office located on José Luis Messía Avenue at the specified time to kick off our journey through Baños de la Encina.
Our adventure begins at the impressive Muslim fortress known as Bury Al-Hamma (locally referred to as Burgalimar), dating back to the 10th century during the Caliphate era. A mere glance at its striking façade reveals why it is regarded as one of Europe's finest preserved castles, notable for being constructed entirely from tabiyya (dry mud). We will stroll around the fortress towers and, from within, relish breathtaking vistas of the village.
As we continue, an intriguing visit to the church of San Mateo awaits, alongside the hermitage of Cristo del Llano. The latter captivates with its vivid figures and intricate embellishments, recognized as a prime example of Andalusian rococo baroque. The mirrors set into the walls reflect the interior sculptures, enhancing a spiritual and solemn ambiance.
Next, we'll meander through the historic center of Baños de la Encina, where we can appreciate the elegant houses and other well-preserved historic treasures.
After a fulfilling 2-hour exploration, we will conclude our guided tour.
