Description

Begin your enlightening guided tour of the Forbidden City, a stunning landmark of Beijing. This is an experience that will leave a lasting impression – it’s essential for anyone interested in history!

Guided Tour of the Forbidden City

We will convene at the scheduled time at the Subway line 8 Jinyuhutong Station Exit C, setting forth on this immersive tour of the Forbidden City in Beijing, recognized as one of the most remarkable palace complexes in China.

Accompanied by your knowledgeable guide, you'll explore the vast courtyards leading to impressive pagodas and pavilions, allowing you to envision the grand ceremonies that the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties hosted throughout the ages.

After an introductory briefing, we will gain entry to this exceptional site, acknowledged by UNESCO as the largest ancient wooden structure ensemble globally. Our initial exploration will take us through the expansive courtyards which connect to the pavilions where imperial ceremonies were officiated.

Within the confines of the Forbidden City, 24 emperors governed China for nearly five centuries, and its significance in Chinese heritage becomes apparent as you traverse its grounds. Discover the stunning intricacies of classical architecture and the symbolism imbued in both philosophy and religion, from the yellow roof tiles – signifying the emperor's status – to the imperial adornments like gilded lion guardians and intricately carved dragons.

Additionally, we will visit the Royal Treasury Museum, a treasure trove of ornamental artistry showcasing the exceptional skill of ancient Chinese craftsmen.

As our guided journey concludes, you are welcome to remain within the city walls to further delve into its rich history at your leisure!

Important: The tour departs promptly at 8:30 am and lasts between 3.5 to 4 hours.

Forbidden City Guided Tour + Tiananmen Square (4.5 Hours)

This alternative tour includes a visit to Tiananmen Square before following the established itinerary. We will begin by discovering some of the most significant landmarks in contemporary Chinese history.

First, we will pass through the Tian'anmen Gate to the north, where Mao Zedong proclaimed the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. Spanning an impressive 100 acres (40.5 hectares), Tiananmen Square holds the title of the largest public square in the world! At its center is the Monument to the People’s Heroes, a prominent granite obelisk honoring those who sacrificed their lives in various revolutionary movements across China.

Encircling the square are numerous monumental structures reflective of the nation’s political and cultural significance, including the National Museum of China and the Great Hall of the People, home to the Chinese government. Visitors can also pay respects at the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong. Over the years, Tiananmen Square has been the backdrop for pivotal events in the country's recent history, notably the 1989 protests, which garnered international scrutiny and resulted in the enforcement of Martial Law in Beijing. There is a wealth of history to uncover at every corner of this square!

After our exploration and discussion of key events in Chinese history, we will proceed to the Forbidden City.

Important: This variant of the tour starts at 11:30 am and lasts between 4 to 4.5 hours.
