Byblos, Batroun and Nabu Museum Day Trip
Description
Prepare to immerse yourself in the rich historical tapestry of Lebanon, beginning in Beirut and exploring its neighboring towns. This journey to Byblos, Batroun, and the Nabu Museum will reveal the astonishing depth of the country's heritage.
Byblos, Batroun and Nabu Museum Day Trip
Your adventure starts with a pickup from your Beirut hotel around 8:30 am, setting the stage for the day's explorations. Our first destination will be the Nabu Museum in Chekka, located about an hour away. This museum showcases a remarkable range of artifacts from the Bronze and Iron Ages, alongside contemporary works from Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, and neighboring regions.
Next, we'll embark on a walking tour of the picturesque coastal town of Batroun, which thrived as a city and port during the Phoenician era (3000 - 64 BC). Here, we will explore the Batroun harbor and its lively souk. Did you know that Batroun may be the 'Batruna' referenced in the ancient 14 BC Tal el-Amarna tablets from Egypt? We will also visit the impressive Phoenician wall, a 225-meter high structure carved into the rock along the shoreline, standing resilient for over 2,000 years.
After this exploration, enjoy a meal at a cozy traditional Lebanese restaurant, where you can savor a selection of local dishes and recharge for the continuation of our tour.
Post-lunch, we'll journey to Byblos, a city where sophistication meets tradition. This location is a leading candidate for the title of the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world. Following a visit to the castle, you'll have some leisure time to wander the medieval quarter, explore the historic souks (markets), and admire the ancient ramparts and charming old churches.
Stroll through the 19th-century souk, decorated with stunning sandstone arches and vaults, leading to the century-old Saint Stephan Cathedral, an exquisite example of Roman-Byzantine architecture. Next, visit the Lady of the Sea Chapel (Saydetel-Bahr), the remnants of the Phoenician fort ravaged by the notorious earthquake of July 551, as well as the remains of the ancient Roman theater and the Roman stadium carved into the Mrah El Cheikh rocks.
As our enriching day concludes, we will return to Beirut around 5:30 pm and drop you off at your hotel.
