Reasons to Explore the Natural History Museum in Berlin
Situated only a short 10-minute stroll from the Central Station, the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin stands as a pivotal scientific institution in the heart of the German capital.
With your ticket in hand, you can navigate through the permanent exhibition halls using an English audio guide. This museum hosts one of Europe’s premier collections of natural history! Here, you’ll discover a rich variety of artifacts, encompassing remnants of flora, fauna, fossils, minerals, and meteorites.
A highlight of the museum is the Dinosaur Hall, where the towering Giraffatitan skeleton can be found, measuring over 42 ft (13 m) in height. You will also encounter the remains of other notable species such as the Diplodocus and Kentrosaurus. Additionally, this hall features Tristan Otto, the original Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton, along with Amalie, the original skull of a Triceratops.
Another significant exhibit is the Biodiversity Wall, showcasing a remarkable display of about 3000 specimens of various dissected animals. Be sure to visit the Wet Collection located in the building's eastern wing, where a diverse assortment of preserved fish, spiders, and crustaceans awaits, totaling approximately a thousand species!
The Mineral Collection is noteworthy as well, boasting over 1000 distinct varieties, some sourced from the esteemed Alexander von Humboldt collection.
If you're intrigued by astrophysics, make sure to stop by the System Earth, a captivating exhibition dedicated to the origins of the cosmos and planet Earth, where you'll uncover insights about volcanoes, meteorite impacts, and continental movements.
