Neues Museum of Berlin: A Premier Egyptian Collection
Situated on the renowned Museum Island, the Neues Museum, or New Museum, ranks among the most frequented cultural sites in Berlin. Its exhibitions are categorized into three primary sections: the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection, the Prehistoric and Early History Museum, and the Classical Antiquities Collection.
This ticket grants access to the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection, complete with an audio guide in English. With this guide, you will uncover the fascinating histories behind the key exhibits in the permanent display.
A highlight of the Egyptian section is the bust of Nefertiti, the mysterious wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten. This iconic artifact hails from around 1340 B.C. and is celebrated for its exquisite details and expressive quality.
Another significant piece is the Berlin Green Head, a sculpture created from greenschist that dates back to 500 B.C. Its remarkable realism makes it a notable attraction. Additionally, visitors can appreciate the impressive statues of Amenemhat III, a prominent pharaoh from Egypt's Twelfth Dynasty.
The Egyptian Museum showcases a significant array of papyrus, including the notable Westcar Papyrus, which comprises a collection of famous tales from Ancient Egypt, featuring stories of magic and fascinating accounts about the lives of pharaohs.
The audio-guided tour typically lasts between 1 hour to 1.5 hours, although guests are welcome to remain in the Egyptian rooms of the Neues Museum for as long as they wish.
