Guatavita & Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá Tour
Description
Embark on a journey to explore two enchanting destinations just outside Bogotá. Lake Guatavita and the renowned Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá are waiting for your visit!
Tour to Guatavita & Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá
Around the designated time, we’ll collect you from your accommodation, initiating our trip northward from Bogotá. After approximately 2 to 2.5 hours of travel, we will reach the picturesque town of Guatavita.
We will embark on a scenic 20 to 30-minute stroll through this lovely town, home to the stunning Guatavita Lagoon. Accompanied by a Spanish-speaking guide, you will enjoy a 2-hour hiking experience. This natural haven is affectionately recognized as the site of offerings made by Indigenous Peoples in reverence to Chie, the goddess of water. Additionally, it's linked to the legendary tale of El Dorado!
Following our exploration of the lagoon, we will spend approximately 1 to 1.5 hours traveling northwest to the town of Zipaquirá. Upon arrival, you will have 1 hour to enjoy your lunch.
Once everyone has gathered again, you'll be granted 2 hours to explore the remarkable Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá equipped with an audio guide in English. This remarkable structure, located 590 feet (180 meters) beneath the earth's surface in the area's salt mines, has been in operation since 1801, thanks to local mining efforts.
At the conclusion of our visit, we will board the vehicle and commence our return to the original departure point. The journey back to Bogotá will take about 1.5 to 2 hours.
