Casa Marqués de San Jorge Museum + Pre-Hispanic Ceramics Workshop
Description
For those who appreciate the art of craftsmanship, a visit to the Casa Marqués de San Jorge Archaeological Museum is an essential experience. This museum features an intriguing collection of pre-Hispanic ceramics. To further engage with this tradition, you will also participate in a workshop to create these artifacts.
Activity Overview
Our journey begins at the designated time at the entrance of the Luis Ángel Arango Library. From this central location in Bogotá, we will take a leisurely stroll through the La Candelaria district toward the Casa Marqués de San Jorge Archaeological Museum.
Upon arrival, a guided tour awaits within this historic colonial building, which boasts the most extensive pre-Hispanic ceramics collection in Colombia. You will encounter a variety of vessels, figurines, and artifacts from diverse cultures across the country, enhancing your understanding of pre-Columbian life.
Following our 45-minute exploration of the museum, we will hop into a private vehicle that will take us to a local artisan workshop. Once we arrive, we will take a moment to unwind while enjoying a typical Colombian snack and drink.
Recharge your energy, as we will then embark on a pre-Hispanic ceramics workshop. For an engaging 1.5 hours, you will learn to craft your own piece using techniques inspired by Colombia’s ancestral cultures. Rest assured, you can take home the creation you make during this session.
