Guatavita & Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá Tour
Description
Explore two enchanting destinations on this combined tour from Bogotá. Lake Guatavita and the renowned Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá are ready for your visit!
Guatavita & Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá Tour
A designated time for pickup at your hotel will initiate your journey as we travel northwards from Bogotá. Following a drive of approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, we'll reach the picturesque town of Guatavita.
Your experience begins with a 20 to 30-minute stroll through this delightful town, renowned for the stunning Guatavita Lagoon. Accompanied by a Spanish-speaking guide, you'll embark on a 2-hour trek through this natural haven, where ancient Indigenous Peoples are believed to have offered tributes to Chie, the water goddess. This site is also closely linked to the legendary tale of El Dorado!
Post our exploration of the lagoon, we will journey northwest for 1 to 1.5 hours to the charming town of Zipaquirá. Upon arrival, you’ll be given 1 hour of free time to savor your lunch.
After regrouping, you will have 2 hours to delve into the illustrious Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá with the aid of an audio guide available in English. This remarkable church is situated 590 feet (180 meters) beneath the surface in the local salt mines, which have been utilized by residents since 1801.
Your visit concludes, and we will head back to the vehicle to commence our return to Bogotá, with an estimated travel time of 1.5 to 2 hours.
