La Candelaria Guided Tour
Description
Tour Overview
The tour begins at the reserved time at the Monument of La Pola. A brief introduction about La Candelaria will be provided, focusing on understanding the historic center “in layers” (colonial, republican, and contemporary). We will explain how to use mobile phones during the tour to see “before and after” comparisons of some places and visual 3D aids for elements that are no longer visible (approx. 10 min).Cultural Spaces
Next, we will walk 6–8 min to the Parque de los Periodistas, discussing the center as a space of culture, public opinion, and urban transformation (approx. 10–15 min), including visual comparisons. Then, we’ll continue on foot to the Plaza / Plazoleta de la Concordia (approx. 8–10 min) for a discussion on heritage, tradition, and daily life (approx. 15–20 min), again using visual resources for contrasts. A small tasting of Chicha will be included.Historical Insights
We will proceed to the Callejón del Embudo (approx. 6–8 min) and then to the Chorro de Quevedo (approx. 3–5 min), with brief stops for photos and discussing the urban layout, iconic corners, and the “origin” of Bogotá (myth vs. history), including historical comparisons and a 3D visual aid (approx. 25–35 min).Independence and Architecture
From the Chorro, we’ll walk to the Casa de La Pola (approx. 10–12 min) to discuss the independence period, memory, and symbols of the historic center (approx. 15–20 min), emphasizing contrasts between historical and current Bogotá.Theatrical and Political Context
Next, we’ll head to San Carlos (approx. 8–10 min) for a brief history of politics and architecture. We will then discuss the Teatro Colón, contextualizing this cultural venue in republican Bogotá (approx. 15–25 min).Plaza de Bolívar
We’ll arrive at the Plaza de Bolívar (approx. 8–10 min) to interpret the urban complex and its most representative buildings (Catedral, Capitolio, Palacio Liévano, and Palacio de Justicia), making significant old vs. current contrasts (approx. 30–40 min). Conclusion
Finally, we will walk to the Manzana Cultural (approx. 10–12 min) to conclude with the center’s role as a cultural and artistic space, recommendations for further exploration, and a final Q&A (approx. 10–15 min). In total, the activity lasts around 2 h 30 min and covers approx. 2–3 km on foot, with frequent stops. ```What's included
