Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá Day Trip
Description
On this excursion to the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá, you will embark on a journey to explore one of the most remarkable subterranean structures in the globe.
Day Trip Overview
We will convene at a designated pickup location in Bogotá and begin our northward trip to Zipaquirá, which will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.
Upon arrival, you will enjoy 2 hours of free exploration within the Salt Cathedral. This religious edifice, located 180 metres (590 feet) beneath the surface, stands out uniquely. Within its walls, you will encounter a variety of salt sculptures and crosses alongside elegant marble features, creating a truly exceptional place of worship!
Our visit to the Salt Cathedral—where temperatures remain below 15º C (59º F)—will allow us to uncover highlights such as the choir, the Stations of the Cross, and the reflective water mirrors. You will also learn about the fascinating history of this temple, which was designated the first of the Seven Wonders of Colombia in 2007 due to its extraordinary integration with the local geology.
Following this, you will have an additional hour to explore Zipaquirá at your leisure, allowing you to grab lunch and wander through the historic center. Here, you can admire the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, a traditional stone structure rather than one of salt, as well as the charming colonial architecture nearby. To elevate your experience, depending on availability, you may also encounter various Colombian culinary samples along the way.
At the conclusion of the tour, we will make our way back to Bogotá.
