Complimentary Walking Tour of Bordeaux
At the designated meeting point, we'll gather in the heart of Bordeaux to initiate our exploration. Are you prepared to uncover one of the most celebrated wine cities in the world? Let’s begin!
One of the significant highlights of our journey will be the Bordeaux Cathedral, also recognized as Saint-André Cathedral, where we will appreciate the exterior of this Gothic masterpiece. Its cultural significance has earned it a UNESCO World Heritage designation! Adjacent to the cathedral stands the Pey Berland Tower, a site rich in history that we will also delve into.
If you’ve ever wanted to explore the longest shopping street in Europe, you’re in for a treat! The Rue Sainte-Catherine, stretching 1.2 kilometres (0.75 miles), is brimming with boutiques, shops, and cafés. We’ll also stop to admire the medieval houses that decorate the streets before visiting Porte Cailhau and St. Peter's Church, where we’ll explore its connection to the French Camino de Santiago.
As we proceed through Bordeaux's historic landmarks, we’ll make our way to the Place de la Bourse, a creation of Jacques Gabriel from the 18th century. Its riverside location and impressive scale symbolize Bordeaux’s trade wealth from yesteryears. This square features the iconic Miroir d'Eau, the world's largest reflecting pool, perfect for capturing stunning photographs with its water displays and mist.
A further highlight will be when we stroll through the elegant Passage Serget, leading us to the Monument aux Girondins located in Place des Quinconces, one of Europe's largest squares. After around 2 hours, our complimentary walking tour will come to a close. Until next time!
