Bordeaux Wine Tour
Description
Bordeaux stands out as a prime destination in France, a country celebrated for its exquisite wines. Explore this remarkable city through an experience crafted by a skilled sommelier, unraveling the mysteries behind the region's illustrious winemaking tradition.
Details of the Wine Experience
Dive into the nuances of wine tasting alongside learning about the wines themselves, as you navigate through the charming UNESCO World Heritage streets. Renowned as one of the most significant wine regions globally, Bordeaux boasts more than 50 recognized "Appellation d'origine contrôlées" (AOCs) which designate specific local products. The right bank bordering the Garonne river is primarily known for its Merlot, whereas the left bank yields more Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Across the entire Gironde area, there are eight defined "Appellation d'origine contrôlées".
Feeling overwhelmed? To clarify the intricacies of Bordeaux wines, your knowledgeable guide will meet you outside the tram station, ready to embark on an exciting journey where your taste buds will be delighted. You will sample four carefully selected wines: two reds, two whites, and a sweet variety, all paired with local cheeses. Your guide will emphasize that a keen sense of smell is equally vital for savoring good wine—some sommeliers even insure their noses for substantial sums!
The history of Bordeaux wine stretches back to Roman times, around 43 AD, continuing through the 12th century with the marriage of Henry Plantagenet and Aliénor d’Aquitaine, which marked the beginning of wine exports to England and its global fame. By the end of this enriching experience, you will have deepened your understanding of Bordeaux wines and their fascinating history—knowledge you'll surely share at future gatherings!
