Salem & Hammond Castle Day Trip
Description
Discover the enchanting Hammond Castle and the historic charm of Salem on this captivating day trip from Boston, highlighting art, groundbreaking inventions, the witch trials, and picturesque landscapes of New England.
Details of the Day Trip
After we meet at your hotel in Boston, we will begin our journey, leaving the urban hustle behind as we head towards Salem and the captivating Hammond Castle.
Our adventure kicks off with a comfortable 1-hour bus ride, taking us to Hammond Castle, the storied residence of the famed American inventor John Hays Hammond Jr. Recognized as the “Father of Radio Control,” he holds over 100 patents. Join us for a 45-minute guided tour where we will explore his significant contributions to technology and innovation.
Following the tour, you will have 45 minutes for independent exploration of the castle, showcasing its remarkable galleries filled with stunning artwork and historical artifacts.
Next, we will embark on a short 30-minute journey to Salem, a town steeped in history, particularly notorious for the witch trials of 1692. Before diving deeper into the town’s dark past, enjoy 1.5 hours of free time for lunch at one of the local eateries.
Rejuvenated, we will commence a 2-hour and 45-minute guided walking tour through Salem. This area was among the earliest settlements of Puritans arriving from England and later became synonymous with a wave of hysteria leading to accusations of witchcraft against over 200 individuals.
On our stroll, we will encounter significant sites such as the Salem Witch Trials Memorial, the Burying Point Cemetery, and the Witch House, the residence of Judge Jonathan Corwin who judged the trials. Each location provides profound insights into the historical events that brought Salem worldwide attention.
Before concluding our trip, we will take a brief 20-minute trip to Proctor's Ledge Memorial, honoring the victims of the Salem Witch Trials who were executed.
As we wrap up our fascinating day, we will make our way back to Boston, finishing the experience approximately 8 to 10 hours after our departure.
