Bruges Day Trip
Description
Commonly referred to as “The Venice of the North,” Bruges is one of Europe's most charming medieval towns. This day trip from Brussels offers a chance to discover this enchanting location, guided by an experienced English-speaking professional.
Tour Choices
When reserving your excursion to Bruges from Brussels, you can select from the following options:
Guided Tour Without Boat Ride
We will convene at Brussels Central Station at the specified time, where we’ll embark on a brief panoramic bus tour of the Belgium capital. From there, our journey continues as we leave Brussels for the northern region of Flanders.
After approximately 1.5 hours of travel, we will make our first stop in the picturesque town of Damme. Here, we will enjoy a brief guided exploration of its delightful historic center.
Following the visit to Damme, we’ll hop back on the bus for a short drive of around 20 minutes to reach Bruges. Once we arrive in the renowned Venice of the North, we’ll take a brief panoramic tour from the bus, allowing us to see the Kruisvest windmills and the medieval gates of Kruispoort and Gentpoort.
Our scenic drive concludes at Bargeplein. Upon arrival, we'll disembark the vehicle for a walking tour of Bruges.
During this city exploration, we’ll visit picturesque spots including the Lake of Love, the quaint Walplein square, the slender Stoofstraat alley, and the Beguinage, a historic site established in 1245, once home to Benedictine nuns.
Our trek through Bruges will take us past other notable landmarks such as the historic St. John's Hospital, the Church of Our Lady, the iconic Grote Markt square, and St. Salvator's Cathedral.
After completing the historical walk, you will have around 5 hours of free time in the heart of Bruges for lunch and browsing the streets at your own pace.
In the afternoon, we will regroup at Bargeplein park to commence our bus ride back to our starting point in Brussels, rounding off this approximately 10-hour excursion.
Self-Guided Tour + Boat Ride
In this variant, we will adhere to the same itinerary as outlined previously, although the guided city center tour will be omitted.
Upon our arrival at Bargeplein Park, you will receive a digital guide featuring an interactive map and highlights of Bruges. You will then have roughly 4 hours of free time to enjoy lunch and explore Bruges at your own leisure.
Additionally, you will have the opportunity to take a boat ride along Bruges' canals, providing a unique perspective of this Flemish gem.
Eventually, in the afternoon, we will reconvene at Bargeplein Park in Bruges to start our return journey to Brussels.
Why Participate in a Day Trip?
Choosing to book the Bruges tour is an excellent way to visit the city, as the cost of train tickets alone can range between 20EUR and 30EUR, dependent on the season. For a little extra, you’ll gain the benefit of a guided experience in a small group with an English-speaking expert.

Bruges has a new measure for all tourist-guided tours. On occasion, our local provider must use a radio with individual headsets. Since throw-away headphones contaminate, we recommend you bring your own to help the environment. If you don't have any, the company will offer you some throw-aways for just 1EUR.
You may contact the provider by e-mail at soporte@buendiatours.com.
Additional Info
Belgian regulations require the use of radio guides in certain situations, making it mandatory to wear headphones. You can bring your own (with a 3.5 mm jack, approximately 0.14 inches, and not wireless) or purchase disposable ones for 1EUR.
