Danube Bend Day Trip: Esztergom, Visegrád & Szentendre

Exploring the Danube Bend: Esztergom, Visegrád & Szentendre

Begin your day by meeting near the parliament building in Budapest, then board a comfortable coach heading north towards Esztergom. This charming city, which served as Hungary's capital from the tenth to the thirteenth centuries, is also recognized as the center of the Roman Catholic Church in the country. The highlight here is the magnificent Esztergom Basilica, where, guided by an experienced English-speaking tour leader, you will have the chance to enter this stunning neoclassical structure. From Castle Hill, take in panoramic views of the Danube and southern Slovakia, with the visit to Esztergom lasting approximately one hour.

Your next destination is Visegrád, celebrated for its medieval fortress perched dramatically on a hill and the summer residence of King Matthias Corvinus. While en route, enjoy glimpses of the impressive ruins of Visegrád Castle, followed by some leisure time to explore the town at your own pace for about an hour.

After a satisfying lunch, you will continue to Szentendre, affectionately known as the Artists’ Village. A guided walking tour will take you through the Old Town for the next hour, after which you’ll have the freedom to meander through its charming souvenir shops and renowned museums.

Journey Back to Budapest

From May to September, on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, please be informed that the return trip to Budapest may be conducted by boat, depending on the Danube’s water levels. If conditions do not permit, transportation will be arranged by land.
