Campanopolis Day Trip
Description
This day excursion to Campanopolis departing from Buenos Aires invites you to explore a village reminiscent of medieval times, constructed in the mid-20th century.
Day Trip Overview
Our journey begins with a pickup at Cerrito Street in Buenos Aires, setting the stage for an intriguing cross to the south, leading us to a town rich in history.
Following approximately 30 minutes of travel, we will reach the medieval village of Campanopolis, elegantly situated within the Ezeiza forests. This unique establishment emerged after the diagnosis of terminal illness of businessman Antonio Campana in the 1980s, prompting him to shift from his business pursuits to realize his dream of building a village inspired by medieval design using reclaimed materials.
Our guided exploration of Campanopolis, lasting around 1.5 hours, will reveal the village's striking architecture, winding streets, and hidden nooks. The construction of this fascinating location utilized elements from the historic iron columns of Galerías Pacífico, the grand gates of the Palermo Hippodrome, alongside the ornate lights and clocks from Plaza de Mayo, among many other treasured antiques.
Notably, Campana embarked on this project without any architectural plans or professional assistance. We will delve into his imaginative process by touring museums showcasing wood, iron, and ornate decorations known as caireles. Furthermore, a standout feature includes a collection of 12 charming cottages constructed from stone and brick, evoking images from fairy tales.
Upon concluding our visit to Campanopolis, we will journey back to Buenos Aires, with our return expected to the meeting spot 6 hours after we first set out.
