Fileteado Porteño: Buenos Aires Folk Art Workshop
Description
Embark on a creative journey in the vibrant district of San Telmo, where you will delve into the art of fileteado porteño, a colorful folk art form primarily used in sign decoration and transportation vehicles. This workshop invites you to uncover the rich history of this technique while crafting your own unique artwork.
Activity Details
At the scheduled time, we will convene at 578 Carlos Calvo Street to kick off the workshop focused on fileteado porteño in San Telmo.
We will begin with an introduction to the intriguing heritage of fileteado porteño. This artistic style emerged in Buenos Aires in the early 20th century and has attained the status of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity as recognized by UNESCO, celebrated for its vibrant colors and a blend of humor and elegance.
Under the guidance of an experienced fileteador, you will explore the background and narratives surrounding this art form while mastering essential techniques: achieving harmony through contrasts, balancing symmetrical curves, ensuring precision in fine lines, and utilizing decorative typography inspired by the tango.
Following this introductory session, you will engage in a practical fileteado workshop. Here, you will create and paint your own design on a prepared sheet, with assistance from your instructor. No prior experience is necessary, allowing your artistic spirit to flourish!
At the conclusion of the two hour workshop, you will leave with your original artwork as a cherished memento, coupled with a certificate of participation.
