Buenos Aires Graffiti Tour
Description
Buenos Aires Graffiti Tour
The Buenos Aires graffiti tour offers an engaging introduction to the artistic, political, and revolutionary blend of the Argentinian capital through its striking and thought-provoking murals.
The Palermo area of Buenos Aires is not only the largest neighborhood in the city but also its most vibrant from an artistic standpoint. This area hosts the Museum of Latin American Art, artisanal markets featuring various artworks, and an impressive array of murals and graffiti.
Starting from Plaza Serrano, where you’ll find delightful markets, the tour leads you through Palermo's Roussel and Santa Rosa, as well as Gorriti and Lavalleja, in search of the city's finest street art.
Your local guide will share insights into the historical relationship between graffiti and the city. This journey takes you back to the early 20th century, when painters were commissioned to paint political slogans on city walls, the emergence of aerosol cans in the 1960s, the period of repression under dictatorship during the 1970s and 1980s, and the subsequent revival of this art form.
Since 2014, in response to the global rise of graffiti as an art medium, the city's government has invited both local and international artists to embellish Palermo’s streets, resulting in a burst of color. Discover murals by notable artists such as Grolou and Dame, Adrián Escandar, and Alfredo Segatori, along with the Worldwide Wall, which showcases a different style of street art centered around stickers and international collaboration.
During the tour, your guide will immerse you in the vibrant graffiti culture of the city, as you admire artworks that play with reality, intertwine native culture, and infuse the urban landscape with color and vitality.
The tour concludes around 5 PM, at the corner of Gorriti and Lavalleja.
