Description
Discover the San Telmo Antiques Fair and the Mataderos Market, two exceptional locations to immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of Buenos Aires.
Description
Upon booking, you can select from the following 2 options:
San Telmo & Mataderos Markets Tour (6 hours 30 mins)
For this option, we'll gather at 10:30 am at number 831 on Calle Defensa, leading us to the San Pedro Telmo Antiques Fair. This bustling market takes place each Sunday at Plaza Dorrego and along Defensa, featuring around 200 stalls where a diverse array of treasures awaits, from furniture to antiques and clothing.
The vibrant atmosphere contributes significantly to the market's charm, where as you browse, the sounds of a live tango orchestra fill the air with traditional melodies, accompanied by dancing couples. This setting epitomizes the essence of Buenos Aires!
Next, we will explore the San Telmo Market, an iconic building boasting a variety of stalls catering to every palate. After delving into its fascinating history, we will travel southeast towards Mataderos Market, or Feria de Mataderos as it’s known in Spanish. Established over 30 years ago, this market embodies the spirit of the Gaucho cowboy culture, where we can savor delicious grilled meats and other traditional dishes crafted by talented Gaucho chefs. A true culinary delight!
After spending three hours soaking in the vibrant market scenes, we will return to our starting point, concluding the tour around 5 pm.
Mataderos Market Tour (4 hours)
If you opt for this option, we will commence the tour at 12:30 pm in the lively district of San Telmo, proceeding directly to the Mataderos Market. Also known as Feria de Mataderos, this venue presents a wonderful opportunity to sample typical dishes like tamales, humita en chala, locro, and the renowned empanadas.
Next, we’ll embark on a journey through the market, discovering the available crafts, musical instruments, accessories, and clothing across more than 300 stalls! Additionally, if desired, we can explore the Criollo de los Corrales Museum, which showcases the gaucho lifestyle in the pampas.
If hunger strikes, we’ll take a break at one of the numerous food stalls to enjoy delicious empanadas for lunch along with a refreshing drink. Afterward, we will continue to browse through the handicraft offerings of the Feria de Mataderos.
To wrap up our experience, we’ll challenge each other to a game of pool at one of Argentina's oldest pool tables, as well as witness the daily folkloric performances on the main stage. We'll conclude the tour by returning to our initial meeting point after a total duration of 4 hours.
