Tour Options
During the booking process, you can select from the following two options. Both options last 3 hours and feature a walking tour with an English-speaking guide:
Historical Tour
Commencing at the Santo Domingo Convent, we will embark on a walking tour that traces the history of Buenos Aires, taking you back to the Colonial period.
Our journey begins as we stroll along Calle Defensa to the Basilica and Convent of San Francisco de Asís and the notable Illuminated Block. Here, we'll investigate the underground tunnels that were used for smuggling during the Colonial era.
The tour will then lead us to the striking Buenos Aires City Legislature, where we will delve into the history of Eva Perón, an iconic figure in the country's narrative. Following this, we’ll visit the Metropolitan Cathedral to discuss the significance of Pope Francis and General San Martín, whose mausoleum is housed within this church.
We will conclude our exploration at the historic Plaza de Mayo, the scene of pivotal political events. In front of the Casa Rosada, known as the "Pink House," we will share insights about the Madres de Plaza de Mayo (Mothers of Plaza de Mayo), the dictatorship, and contemporary Argentina.
- Schedule: this tour is available every day of the week at 2 pm
Military History Tour
For this option, we will gather at the Pirámide de Mayo to begin a tour dedicated to the Argentine dictatorship and the ongoing quest for human rights.
We will witness the renowned Ronda de las Madres in Plaza de Mayo, a peaceful protest that originated in this iconic location in 1977. For 30 minutes, we’ll discuss the genesis of this movement and how these women courageously demanded the return of their missing children. This powerful act of resistance is a key chapter in the country’s history!
The next stop is the Casa de las Madres in Plaza de Mayo, situated near the National Congress of Argentina. Here, we’ll learn about the crucial role that the Mothers played in advocating for truth and memory.
To wrap up, we will visit the former clandestine detention center, Virrey Cevallos. During this 40-minute exploration, we will reflect on the profound events that marked this somber period of Argentine history.
