Market Tour Details
At the agreed time, we will gather at the entrance of the Franciscan Museum of Monseñor Fray José María Bottaro, conveniently located in front of the Basilica of Saint Francis.
Our exploration will then take us to the San Telmo Market, a vibrant hub since 1897, loved by both residents and visitors alike in Buenos Aires.
We’ll begin our excursion by walking along Calle de la Defensa, one of the oldest thoroughfares in the capital. During our stroll, we’ll delve into the city’s history and pause at the Manuel Belgrano mausoleum. Continuing our journey, we’ll make our way to the beloved Mafalda Statue, a must-see for a memorable photo opportunity. Our route will also take us past Plaza Dorrego, the historic heart of tango and a vibrant antiquities market that springs to life on Sundays.
Reaching the San Telmo Market, we will step inside this iconic venue, which has been a commercial focal point since 1897. Here, you will find rows of vibrant market stalls featuring an array of local products. In addition to an impressive selection of meats, fruits, and fresh vegetables, the market boasts sections devoted to antiques, books, and vintage cameras.
As we wander through the market, we will pause at one of the standout food stalls. This eatery is famous for its Choripán, a traditional chorizo sandwich beloved in the Southern Cone of South America. Enjoy this delightful treat along with an empanada and a glass of wine. Our journey continues towards one of the most traditional stalls, where you'll have the opportunity to try the delicious 'dulce de leche', an emblematic Argentinian sweet. Here, you will sample an authentic Argentinian alfajor paired with a local liqueur, along with a little surprise to conclude your tour.
After an engaging 3-hour experience, we will wrap up our time at the San Telmo Market.
