Embark on a half-day excursion to the remarkable Su Nuraxi di Barumini, where you will traverse the echoes of the Bronze Age and explore a pivotal archaeological treasure of Sardinia.

Understanding Su Nuraxi of Barumini

This site, recognized as one of the most crucial archaeological locations in Sardinia, showcases the best-preserved and most striking example of a nuraghe, a distinctive megalithic tower prevalent on the island.

Originating in the Bronze Age between the 16th and 13th centuries BC, the location consists of a central structure featuring a prominent tower encircled by four smaller towers, all interconnected by a bastion. Surrounding this complex, a village emerged over time, comprising living spaces and amenities for everyday activities.

In the 1950s, the site was unearthed by archaeologist Giovanni Lilliu, and it received designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, acknowledging its vast historical and cultural importance.

Exploring Sardinia's Rich Past

Our meeting point is at Largo Carlo Felice in Cagliari, where we will commence a 50-minute journey towards Barumini to visit Su Nuraxi.

We will pause for 20 minutes in Villamar, a delightful village celebrated for its vibrant murals. This stop offers a chance to capture photographs and perhaps enjoy a coffee.

Upon reaching Barumini, the guided exploration of the Su Nuraxi archaeological site, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will commence. This tour will last between 1 and 1.5 hours, allowing us to uncover intriguing aspects of the Nuragic civilization.

After our exploration, we will return to Cagliari, passing through picturesque landscapes adorned with olive trees that characterize the Sardinian countryside. The entire experience concludes back at our starting point after approximately 4 hours.
